What are the benefits of flax seed? Organic flax seed has excellent positive benefits for our health and well-being. Ground and used as a breakfast cereal, flax seed is bursting with nutrition, vitamins and minerals. High in both soluble and insoluble fibre flax seed has also the highest amount of lignans than any other vegetable.
Approximately half the weight of flax seed is made up of nutritionally rich oils and about one third being beneficial Omega 3. The remainder is made up of fibre, the full array of complete amino acid proteins for building a strong body, and a wealth of nutrients. Flax seed is the richest source of plant lignans, which is being investigated for the possible benefits as an anti-tumour aid. Fibre is an abundant part of the whole flax seed, which is important for out intestinal and colon health. Flax seed contains both soluble and insoluble fibre. The soluble fibre in flax seed is best known as mucilage, containing between 12-15%. Soluble fibre such as mucilage nourishes favourable intestinal bacteria, slows the rate of sugar entering the circulatory system, which may aid in the stabilization and modulation of blood glucose. Mucilage is a natural substance found in vegetables. It has the ability to buffer excess acid. Mucilage may aid in preventing re-absorption of bile acids, reduce absorption of cholesterol from foods and increase the amount of cholesterol excreted. Flax seed is also an excellent mild laxative, which will also benefit the colon and bowel.

Why should you choose flax seed in liquid form over capsules? The cost of capsules average 3 to 4 times more expensive than liquid oils, as an example 1 teaspoon of liquid evening primrose oil is equivalent to 5+ evening primrose oil capsules. Also 1 tablespoon of liquid flax oil is equivalent to 15+ capsules. Most importantly though capsules are not as fresh as liquid oil, we regard fresh oil as that which has been pressed within 7 days of delivery.
